1. Who we are
Giftwise ("we", "us", "our") provides a web application at getgiftwise.com that helps you organize gift ideas, occasions, budgets, and the people you shop for. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
2. Information we collect
Account information: your email address and, if you provide one, a display name and avatar image, collected when you sign up.
Content you create: the people, occasions, gifts, budgets, and notes you add to organize your own gift planning.
Details about other people: to plan gifts you may enter details about friends and family, such as a name, birthday, email, phone number, home address, clothing sizes, and interests. We use these only to provide the service to you. Please only add information you are comfortable storing.
Receipts and files: if you upload a receipt or other attachment, it is stored in a private file bucket that only your account can open. Avatar images are stored separately and can be viewed by anyone with the image link.
Payment information: if you subscribe on the web, payment is processed by Stripe. If you subscribe in the iOS app, payment is processed by Apple. We do not store your card details. We store subscription status, transaction identifiers and billing metadata needed to manage account access; Apple receives your Giftwise account identifier as an account token to associate your purchase.
Usage information: basic technical data (such as browser type, pages visited, and general usage patterns). If you accept cookies, we collect this with Google Analytics and measure our ads with the Meta Pixel and Reddit Pixel. It is used only to understand how the app is used and to fix problems. If you arrive from one of our ads, we also keep the campaign tags from the link (such as the source and campaign name) in your browser session and save them to your profile when you sign up. Separately, our sign-up pages keep simple anonymous counts of a few steps (for example, a visit to a landing page, a tap on Start free, or a completed sign-up), together with the page and those campaign tags. These counts use no cookies, contain no name, email, account or device identifier, and are used only to see where visitors stop on the way to signing up.
3. How we use your information
We use your information to operate the app (storing and displaying the data you enter), to communicate with you (such as occasion and gift-deadline reminders, and account-related emails), to process payments for premium features, and to maintain and improve the service.
4. Notifications
We send email reminders about upcoming occasions and gift deadlines. Email reminders are on when you create an account, and you can turn them off at any time in Settings. Browser push reminders are sent only if you turn them on in Settings and allow notifications in your browser.
5. Shared occasions
Premium users can share an occasion with another person by email. A person you share with can see the people and gifts on that occasion, except gifts you choose to hide from collaborators. You control who an occasion is shared with and can stop sharing at any time. You are responsible for who you invite.
6. How we protect your information
Your data is stored in a managed database with row-level security, meaning your account can only access its own records. Passwords are handled entirely by our authentication provider and are never visible to us in plain text.
7. Sharing your information and service providers
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the service providers needed to run Giftwise, and only to the extent needed for them to perform those services: Supabase (database, sign-in and file storage), Cloudflare (hosting), Resend (email), Stripe (web payments), Apple (iOS subscriptions and purchase validation), and your browser's push service if you turn on push notifications. If you accept optional cookies, Google Analytics, Meta, and Reddit also receive usage data as described in the Cookies section.
8. Your choices and data retention
You can update or delete the information in your account at any time from within the app. You can disable notification channels in Settings. You can delete your account yourself at any time in Settings. This permanently removes your account, your data and your uploaded files, and cancels any web Premium subscription. Deleting Giftwise data does not cancel an Apple subscription; cancel it separately through Apple. You can also ask us to delete your account by contacting us using the details below. We keep your information while your account is active. If you ask us by email, we finish the deletion within 30 days. Stripe keeps payment records for its own tax and legal obligations, and copies in our database backups are removed as those backups age out.
9. Cookies, local storage and your consent choice
We use only the cookies/local storage strictly necessary to keep you signed in and remember your preferences. If you accept optional cookies in the cookie banner, we also load Google Analytics, which helps us understand how the site is used, and the Meta Pixel and Reddit Pixel, which let us measure whether visits and signups came from our Meta and Reddit ads. None of these are loaded if you decline, and we do not share the content of your gift lists with Google, Meta or Reddit. We also use your browser's session storage for campaign tags, and an offline cache when you install the app, so the app can show an offline page. You can change your cookie choice at any time from Settings.
10. iOS app
The iOS app uses email and password sign-in and stores your account and gift-planning content with the providers described above. Apple purchases are verified on our server and tied to your Giftwise account. The iOS app does not load Google Analytics, Meta Pixel or Reddit Pixel or save advertising campaign tags. Essential local storage keeps you signed in. Reminders are delivered by email; native push is not available. You can delete your account and uploaded files in Settings. Apple retains purchase and billing records according to its own policies.
11. Children
Giftwise is not meant for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13, and we will delete an account if we learn it belongs to one.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when we do.
